Same-day scheduling, in-house lab, and clear reports. RAE has served more than 50,000 San Diego homes and businesses since 2013.
Rarefied Air Environmental was founded in San Diego in 2013, and San Diego is still where the lab, the office, and most of the team live and work. Our headquarters is on Ruffin Road in Kearny Mesa, which means a tech can be at most San Diego County properties within hours, not days. That proximity matters when you are staring at a water leak, a renovation deadline, or a buyer who needs answers before closing.
We test for asbestos, mold, lead, bacteria from sewage backups, methamphetamine and fentanyl residue, VOCs and formaldehyde, allergens and nuisance dust, fire and smoke damage, and Poria fungus. Every sample is processed in our own California-accredited lab, Rarefied Air Analytical, which is why our turnaround times are shorter than firms that ship samples out of state. If you need same-day results, ask. We do it more often than most companies promise it.

Why San Diego Properties Need Local Expertise
San Diego is not one climate. It is a coastal strip with high humidity and marine layer fog, an inland mesa belt where temperatures swing more than the coast lets on, and an east county that hits triple digits in summer. Each microclimate creates different environmental risks, and the building stock varies just as much. A 1960s ranch in Clairemont, a 1920s craftsman in North Park, and a 2010 build in Carmel Valley each present a different set of materials, a different remediation history, and a different set of likely contaminants.
That local knowledge is the part you cannot import. We know which neighborhoods saw heavy asbestos in popcorn ceilings, which inland zip codes get flagged for elevated radon, where sewage backups concentrate after storms, and which commercial corridors had legacy industrial uses that still show up in soil and surface samples decades later. Every report we deliver is calibrated to that context.

Why Property Owners, Contractors, and Realtors Choose RAE
- Our own lab. Rarefied Air Analytical, our California-accredited laboratory, opened in 2022. Samples never leave our chain of custody, which is why our turnaround is faster than firms that outsource analysis.
- Same-day and next-day scheduling. Time-sensitive work is the norm, not the exception. We hold open slots every day for emergency calls.
- Family-owned, San Diego based. Founders Bruce Rosenblatt and Matt Zar built this company in 2013 and still answer the phone. The team includes family members across the lab, billing, and scheduling.
- Reports that make sense. Plain language summaries written for owners, not just other inspectors. Every report tells you what we found, what it means, and what to do next.
- Insurance and restoration partner network. We work with restoration contractors, insurance adjusters, property managers, and real estate professionals across San Diego on hundreds of jobs each year.
