San Diego’s Environmental Testing Company for Over a Decade
Rarefied Air Environmental (RAE) was founded in 2013 by co-owners Bruce Rosenblatt and Matt Zar.
Matt had begun environmental consulting in 2003, acquiring asbestos & lead certifications and gaining knowledge of mold and other environmental hazards in Los Angeles. Bruce had been in sales in San Diego restoration dating all the way back to 2001, with a history of dry-cleaning sales dating as far back as 1985.
Matt & Bruce had started working together in the environmental consulting industry in San Diego in 2012. At this time, Matt & Bruce believed that they could start their own environmental consulting company that would provide the best consulting available for the right cost and, above all, the best customer service available. Since then, RAE has lived up to its expectations and beyond. RAE has distinguished itself from its competition as the leading environmental consulting company in San Diego and portions of Riverside & Orange County.

Founder Spotlight: Bruce Rosenblatt
Bruce Rosenblatt has always had an entrepreneurial spirit—he built his first company over 26 years from the ground up, handling sales and operations along the way. After working as a 1099 contractor in environmental consulting, he saw too many jobs scheduled for company convenience instead of what clients needed, especially in stressful, time-sensitive situations. He founded Rarefied Air Environmental to raise the standard with client-first service, fast response times, clear communication, and complete transparency—an approach that still guides how the team serves San Diego and beyond.
A True Family-Owned Company
Rarefied Air Environmental is truly family-owned and operated. Bruce’s daughter works in our lab, helping ensure every sample is handled with care and precision. Our other owners’ family supports key parts of the business as well—from billing to lab operations to scheduling. That close-knit structure creates a culture of accountability, responsiveness, and genuine care—so clients feel supported from the first call to the final report.
Our goal is to assist our customers with their environmental needs and to provide the best service possible. We understand that asbestos, lead, mold, allergens etc. can be very concerning and very confusing to people. We not only want to provide the best service & report, but also the professional guidance one would need in times of distress or concern. We do not take lightly the concerns of our customers.

Our team delivers thorough environmental testing designed to identify hazards quickly and accurately. Whether you’re addressing air quality concerns or ensuring compliance, we provide reliable results and clear guidance every step of the way.
Asbestos Testing
Our DOSH-certified technicians are state-licensed to perform asbestos survey and generate a formal written report that will indicate what materials contain asbestos at varying levels or the absence of asbestos.
Mold Testing
We offer the most technologically advanced and comprehensive mold testing available. Our technicians can identify the source of mold and prepare a full scope for remediation.
Lead Testing
Our technicians utilize XRF technology to detect not only lead-based paint on the surface but all layers of paint that may be present under the other layers of paint and deliver instantaneous results.
Bacteria/Sewage Backup
We can test sewage water, flood water or other degraded water contamination to ensure cleanup, disinfection and testing are successful so the living environment is free of contamination from microbes.
Our Certifications
RAE also opened a certified and accredited laboratory in 2022, Rarefied Air Analytical (RAA). Not only has that allowed RAE to provide quick results, but it has also allowed us to expand our knowledge and understanding of environmental hazards down to a microscopic level.
RAE and RAA continue to research and expand knowledge in the environmental industry, further separating themselves from the competition.
